Away from the everyday grind at the Academy of Light, Michael Ledger talks home life, role models and ways to unwind as he takes to the spotlight.
Michael, a great season so far for yourself so far but let’s take a look at the other side of your life…
Academy v home life
We have long days at the academy so when I go home I tend to just rest up watch TV and play on my game consoles. We train hard most days so when I have time to relax I like to make sure I recover in time to go again the next day.
Parental guidance
My parents both work full time. My dad has his own business and transfers caravans so I suppose you could call him a haulage driver. My mum works as a receptionist in a doctors so they both have normal jobs to be honest.
They have always been great because growing up I could see they had stable jobs. It wasn’t easy though and they had to sacrifice all their time to make sure I could get to training so I’m really grateful for that. Without them I definitely wouldn’t be where I am now!
There’s no place like home!
It’s cold in the winter when I’m from in Consett! It’s quite far from the academy and it’s a rural place that’s quite out the way. That means we get bad winters and it’s known for being cold in the winter. To be honest, I like living there because it’s quiet and it's a nice place to chill out and go for walks.
Things close to the heart
I like to go for walks with my dogs because I find that really relaxing. I also play my Xbox - mainly FIFA - and watch box sets on TV. I watch a lot of sport as well because I’ve always been one to try different stuff but football has always been the one I really took too. Mind you, I do like boxing and I try to watch as much as I can when it’s on. During the summer when we are off, I usually go round my local gym to keep fit and join in with some of the activities there.
