Right track: Allan confident points will come

Chris Allan has hailed positivity as key to Sunderland under-18s turning their fortunes around.

The Black Cats produced a steely display at Liverpool last Saturday but fell behind inside 16 minutes when lapse defending saw them punished.

Elliott Dickman’s side dusted themselves down and refused to accept defeat as wave after wave of attacks crashed against the Reds’ backline.

But just as the young guns looked to be building a head of steam, Liverpool dealt a knock-out blow as they went against the tide and snatched a second to seal all three points.

Speaking to safc.com, Allan refused to dwell on the defeat and admitted positivity is key to helping the youth team climb the U18 Premier League.

“We didn’t play as well as we could’ve done in the first half but we came back after the break and we did well,” he said.

“We got on the ball a lot more and we were a lot more positive but we just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.

“We weren’t clinical enough in the final third and we missed too many chances. Spirits are high and the lads are moving forward.”

He continued: “We are taking the positives out of the game and it’s just a case of making sure we continue to move forward, continue to work hard and go into each game with a positive attitude to try and get three points.”
