U23s in Spain: Wright feeling the heat

Dan Wright has revealed he is enjoying the challenges that come with the Spanish heat as Sunderland under-23s conclude their second day on foreign soil.

Andy Welsh’s young guns have taken some time out from life at the Academy of Light to undertake a four-day warm weather training camp in Spain.

With the purpose of the trip to build up a tolerance to fatigue ahead of the 2016-17 Premier League 2 season, Wright and his team-mates have already been put through their paces in three intense sessions under the sun’s intense rays.

Speaking to safc.com the midfielder admitted he can already feel the benefits and is keen to continue the hard work over the coming days.

“It has been tough with the weather but all the lads are coping well,” he said.

“In between training we have been resting up to make sure we are ready for the next session so that we can give 100 per cent.

“Coming over here is great because it gives us the perfect chance to get our fitness levels up and get ourselves ready for the next season.”

He continued: “It’s my first under-23s pre-season so it’s another step up in terms of difficulty, the intensity is better and hopefully now I can push on and help the team try to do better than what we did last year.”
