Connelly: Striker feels right at home

Lee Connelly has revealed he is loving life at Sunderland’s Academy of Light.

The young striker signed for Sunderland under-18s at the start of July from Scottish club Queens Park and since taken to life on Wearside like a duck to water.

With seven goals in four pre-season friendlies, including a hat-trick in the Lads’ 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday, Connelly has wasted no time in showing off his scoring prowess in these initial stages.

And as the 2016-17 U18 Premier League campaign edges ever closer, Connelly has admitted he is enjoying life in the north east and is eager for the new season to get underway.

“Everything is going really well at the moment,” he boomed. “I have settled in quickly and that has helped me focus on my football.

“It was a big move for me but everyone has been great and that has helped me settle into my new life, my digs and at the academy.”

He continued: “I’ve played well in pre-season and I’m scoring goals so there isn’t much more I could ask for as a striker.

“The first few weeks were tough because it’s my first professional pre-season but I can feel it’s paying off, I’m feeling in great shape right now and I can't wait to start the season.”
