FA Youth Cup: Defender targets cup run

Brandon Taylor has set his sights on a cup run as Sunderland under-18s' preparations come to a head against Burton Albion in the FA Youth Cup.

The young Black Cats welcome the Brewers to Eppleton Colliery Welfare on Thursday evening bidding to enter the fourth round of the competition.

Having collected four points from their last two matches, Elliott Dickman’s side enter the historic cup competition with high hopes of ending 2016 with a win.

Speaking to safc.com, Taylor admitted while the league is the Lads’ primary focus, a cup run is key to gaining momentum.

"It's going to be a good occasion and we are ready for the match," he said.

"We have been training well so all the lads are pretty confident going into it.

"We know we can't take anything for granted and they are going to come here and throw a lot at us.

"Hopefully though we can stand up to that, be strong and secure our place in the next round of the cup.

"We want to get the win and try to get the longest run we can because a cup run would be great for our season."
