U18s: Dickman looks for bouncebackability

Elliott Dickman is confident his players will bounce back from the two-goal collapse in time for next week’s FA Youth Cup match.

Sunderland under-18s held a two-goal lead at home to West Bromwich Albion last Friday, however, as the match entered the closing stages the Baggies struck back to earn a share of the spoils.

While it was a bitter pill to swallow of the young Black Cats, Dickman has wasted him time in turning his attentions to next Thursday’s third round FA Youth Cup match against Burton Albion.

Speaking to safc.com, the under-18s coach believes it's essential the youth team respond if they are to maintain their recent upturn in form.

“We work very hard in training and we go over a lot of game scenarios,” he said. “When you are 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go you want to be able to see the game out.

“Some of the players have been a bit naive and some are a bit young. We ended up with four under-16s on the pitch at the end against West Brom.

“I feel for the Lads because we didn’t deserve it but we need to dust ourselves down now in time for our next match.

He continued: “We need to look at what we can do better and do differently next time – staff included – and the main thing is we look at what we have done and make sure we go again.”
