Woud: U18s optimistic ahead of curtain-raiser

A strong pre-season has given Sunderland under-18s every reason to be confident ahead of their season opener, according to Michael Woud.

The young Black Cats head to the West Midlands this Saturday, keen to kick start their U18 Premier League campaign with a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With a host of new faces in the youth team, Elliott Dickman's side have enjoyed a positive pre-season as they earned some morale boosting victories.

Speaking to safc.com New Zealand stopper Woud has admitted confidence is high in the camp but a good start is vital.

"Wolves will give us a hard game," he said.

"They are a good side but we are confident because we know if we play as well as we can then we have a good chance to get a result when we go down there.

"It's important we get a good start to the season.

"We know it's going to be tough but with the quality we have we know we can beat anyone out there, but we must take one game at a time."
