Robson: Midfielder relishing return to action

Fresh from a spell on the treatment table, Ethan Robson has revealed he is keen to pick up where he left off following a fitness-fuelled pre-season.

While the midfielder saw his 2015-16 campaign cut short due to injury, a new two-year deal helped swallow the bitter pill as Sunderland under-23s' title bid fell away at the death.

However, Robson returned for pre-season at the start of July and was left delighted when he was invited away with the first-team to their Austrian training base before featuring in the Black Cats domestic friendlies and then their three games in France.

Despite missing out on Sunderland's pre-season finale against German giants Borussia Dortmund, Robson has admitted he is relishing being back in action and is keen to clock some valuable minutes at Leicester on Monday night.

“It was a great experience to go away with the first-team,” he smiled. “It was tough, really tough, but a great experience and all the lads were really welcoming and I would say the experience has helped make me a more mature player.

“I feel like I showed what I could do and now it’s important for me to keep pushing on and show what I can do.”

He continued: “I’ve worked really hard in the gym over the summer and now I’m just looking forward to having a run of games.

“Game time is the most important thing for me at the minute and hopefully I can see where that takes me.”
