Robson: Midfielder unfazed by hurdles

Ethan Robson is enjoying the trials and tribulations thrown in front of him following Sunderland under-23s flying start to the Premier League 2 season.

The midfielder missed the young Black Cats opening fixture against Chelsea due to injury but returned for their trip to Leicester City and netted a speculative last-gasp winner.

A place on the first-team’s bench against Shrewsbury last Wednesday followed before Robson then travelled to the south coast with David Moyes’ side on Saturday.

While he didn't feature in the 1-1 draw at St Mary's, Robson starred the next day as the young Black Cats dismantled Southampton to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

Speaking to safc.com the 18-year-old admitted while he is savouring every second of action he can’t afford to take his foot off the gas.

“Southampton were on a good run and they came here having beaten Liverpool and Manchester United,” he said. “But we played really well and it was a great team performance.

“We stuck at it, scored some good goals and possession wise we were excellent.”

He continued: “It’s been a good start to the season for the team and for myself on a personal note. It has been a great experience to be part of the first-team but I just need to keep going.

“I’m feeling sharp in myself but I just need to keep playing games and showing people what I can do, hopefully then I will get more chances.”
