Donate to SAFC Foundation via text message

It is now easier than ever to make a donation to the football club's official charity.

SAFC Foundation has launched a 'text to donate' service with the help of Black Cats stars Connor Wickham and Craig Gordon.

Supporters can now make a donation of £3 to SAFC Foundation by sending a text message to 70070 containing SAFC10 £3. The donation will then be added to their mobile phone bill.

The football club's official charity, which this year celebrates its 10th Birthday, relies on fundraising to run education, community and sports projects that help 40,000 children and their families across the North East every year.

Connor Wickham said: "I was told about the Foundation in one of my first meetings with the club and when you look at what it achieves in the local community it's awe inspiring. I didn't hesitate to support it and would encourage Sunderland fans to get behind them and pledge their support too by making a donation today."

Craig Gordon added: "SAFC Foundation is something that every Sunderland fan should be proud of. I've seen first-hand their work in the community and believe that it's vital in helping the North East become a better place to live for everybody. With the support of the public through this campaign we can hopefully grow the Foundation and help even more people in the region."

Sunderland's upcoming match against Chelsea on Saturday 10th September has also been dedicated to SAFC Foundation to celebrate their 10th Birthday and achievements over the last decade in becoming one of the biggest football foundations in the Football League.

The team will take to the pitch in special strips bearing the logo of SAFC Foundation, the Foundation will also showcase a range of their programmes on the pitch at half time and there will be other activities on the day to help celebrate the achievements of the organisation.

Growing from a staff of just three when it was founded 10 years ago SAFC Foundation now employs more than 100 staff including professional teachers, health workers, coaches, family learning officers, youth workers and support staff.

The organisation has worked with more than 150,000 people over the last decade.

As well as supporting SAFC Foundation through online and text donations fans will also be able to bid to win the one-off match worn Foundation shirts signed by each player at online auction website eBay shortly after the final whistle.
