Vaughan wins Wales call

David Vaughan has been called up for international duty.

Sunderland's David Vaughan has been named in the Wales squad to face Australia next month.

The Welsh will face Tim Cahill and Co at the Cardiff City Stadium on 10 August in a friendly match before the Euro 2012 qualifiers resume.

Team manager Gary Speed will use the game to assess his squad ahead of the qualifiers against Montenegro in September and Switzerland in October.

Vaughan, who joined Sunderland on a free transfer in the summer, was born in Abergele and has represented Wales from under-19 level upwards.

The former Blackpool, Crewe and Real Sociedad man has won 25 senior caps for his country, scoring once.
