Skipper's respect for Wigan

Lee Cattermole is looking forward to facing former club Wigan this weekend.

Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole says he still has a lot of respect for Wigan as he prepares to go back to his former club this weekend.

Cattermole will be making his first visit to the DW Stadium since leaving the Latics to join Sunderland for £6m last summer.

The 22-year-old played 33 games for Wigan under the tutelage of Steve Bruce in the 2008-09 season prior to joining Bruce and his staff on Wearside.

And the Black Cats' skipper is looking forward to revisiting his former employers this Saturday after missing last season's game through injury.

"I've not been back there yet but Wigan was a great club for me," said Cattermole, who will join Titus Bramble in heading back to the Lancashire club.

"They were a great stepping stone in between Middlesbrough and here. Everyone at the club was brilliant, from the chairman down. Obviously the manager and the staff came here.

"I loved my time there and I have a lot to respect them for."
