Henderson stars in England win

Jordan Henderson was on the winning side as England U21s triumphed in Portugal on Friday.

Jordan Henderson played the full 90 minutes as England Under-21s took a giant step towards qualifying for the European Championships.

The Young Lions faced Portugal in Barcelo knowing a win was vital, and their aim was achieved thanks to a first-half goal from Chelsea man Daniel Sturridge.

While Henderson starred in midfield, fellow Black Cat Danny Welbeck also impressed, helping to set up Sturridge's 32nd-minute winner.

Welbeck combined with Tom Cleverley to play in Sturridge, who finished calmly to bag the three points for England. Stuart Pearce's side also had a goal disallowed.

Attention now turns to a crucial clash on Tuesday as England face a must-win game against Lithuania at Colchester United's Weston Homes Community Stadium.
