Mixed emotions for star Gordon

No keeper could have stopped Adam Johnson's equaliser for Manchester City, according to Sunderland's Craig Gordon.

Craig Gordon admitted no keeper could have stopped Adam Johnson's equaliser as the former Middlesbrough winger earned Manchester City a point at the Stadium of Light.

Johnson curled a shot into the top corner in injury time to cancel out Kenwyne Jones' early header from Steed Malbranque's cross.

Gordon pulled off at least five excellent saves as City pressed in the second half on his way to the man of the match award. The Scot has conceded just once in his last four games.

"I've got mixed emotions," Gordon told SAFC TV. "Man City probably did enough to merit getting something out of the game, it's just unfortunate their goal came so late in the game when we were so close to picking up all three points.

"I was happy with my performance and I don't think anyone could have saved the equalising goal. I made a few good saves and they helped the lads to get a well-deserved point.

"A draw was a fair result and they'll be disappointed not to have taken more from the game. It would have been a smash-and-grab if we'd have managed to get three points but those kind of results come up every week."

"The atmopshere was brilliant," he added. "The fans were excellent and that just shows the difference one result can make. Everybody was up for it."

Perhaps Gordon's best save of the afternoon came when he blocked Craig Bellamy's shot with his legs despite the ball taking a deflection on its way through a crowd of players.

"I didn't see it until after the ball deflected off Alan Hutton in front of me," explained Gordon, who beat back competition from Marton Fulop to become the club's undisputed number one.

"He got the slightest of touches and I just managed to get a foot on it. Thankfully for me it went straight back to him and he managed to scramble it away."
