Sunderland chief Steve Bruce admits he isn't optimistic about the injury sustained by Kenwyne Jones during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
Jones headed home early on to put the Black Cats ahead but was withdrawn at half time with what was later disclosed to be a hip injury.
The striker has already spent time on the sidelines this season and Bruce admits he's anxiously awaiting scan results on the eight-goal striker.
"Kenwyne's been the real deal over the last month but the injury doesn't look good," Bruce told safc.com.
"We'll have to see how the scans are but I think he's going to be something like the eighth player we've had on the sidelines with a serious injury.
"We will wait and see how he is in the morning."
Bruce also confirmed that midfielder Lee Cattermole has been "struggling" but says the £6m signing "should be okay" to face Birmingham on Saturday.
