Bent rubbishes paper talk

Sunderland striker Darren Bent has described paper talk suggesting a fear of spiders would prevent him going to the World Cup as "absolute nonsense".

A recent report in the media suggested that Bent, 25, would be hesitant about flying to South Africa because of an alleged phobia.

The 10-goal frontman told safc.com that such comments had been taken out of context.

"It's nonsense," he added. "The World Cup is the pinnacle of any player's career and to suggest a slight fear of spiders would get in the way is complete rubbish, it's as simple as that.

"I'll continue to keep my head down and work hard for Sunderland in order to give Fabio Capello a selection problem ahead of the tournament.

"I've read in the papers that I'm considering seeing a hypnotherapist, which is rubbish as well."
