The Premier League today published figures highlighting clubs spending on agent's fees in the 12 months leading up to 30 September 2009.
Sunderland AFC actively supports the publication of individual clubs spending on agents fees as the process promotes greater transparency in transfer dealings and helps bring greater accountability to football.
In the latest figures, SAFC is listed with commitments of £2,007,040 with the figures relating to the 12 months from September 2008 to 30 September 2009
During that time the Club completed 47 transfer deals, involving eight players joining the club and16 departing on permanent deals, along with three loan signings and 20 players being loaned out to other clubs.
Sunderland AFC Chief Executive Steve Walton said: "The publication of agents' fees is something that we as a Club continue to support. We feel the level of fees paid by Sunderland during this period disclosed to be reasonable - the arrival of a new manager has meant significant activity in the transfer market with extensive squad re-shaping has taken place in recent months."
Chairman Niall Quinn added: "At an average of around £40,000 per deal, this figure is acceptable from our point of view, however we continue to hope that we can work towards a time when the payment of agents will become the responsibility of the individual player, not the football club."
