Former Sunderland goalkeeper Darren Ward has joined the coaching staff at Peterborough United.

Ward, 35, retired after being released by the Black Cats in May.  He made a total of 35 appearances in just under three years with Sunderland.

Worksop-born, Ward also served Mansfield, Norwich and both Nottingham clubs during his career, as well as spending time on loan at Wolves last season.

The Wales international will work with Peterborough's goalkeepers as Posh boss Darren Ferguson looks to consolidate in football's second tier following promotion from League One.

"Peterborough are delighted to welcome Darren," read a statement on the club's official website, theposh.com.
