Steve Bruce has completed his third signing of the summer at the Stadium of Light with the capture of highly-rated Olympique de Marseille captain Lorik Cana.
Albanian midfielder Cana, 25, joins the Black Cats on a 4-year contract in a deal worth over £5million.
Steve Bruce said: "I'm delighted to have brought Lorik to the club, especially given the number of clubs who had expressed an interest in signing him.
"He brings with him a tremendous amount of experience both at club level and internationally and is a great addition to our squad.
"To captain a side of Marseille's stature says a lot about the player and his character, and I'm sure he'll go on to be a fantastic signing for Sunderland."
After beginning his career at FC Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland, he enjoyed a successful spell with Paris St-Germain before moving to the Stade Velodrome in August 2005.
Cana led Marseille to a second place finish in Ligue 1 in the 2008-09 season - just three points short of champions Bordeaux.
Internationally, he has represented the Albanian national side on 31 occasions.
