Safety first for North East Live

by Sunderland AFC

Advice ahead of pop extravaganza.

Tens of thousands of music fans will flock to Sunderland on Sunday, as the Stadium of Light plays host to blink box North East Live, a one day pop festival, set to be the biggest staged in the region.

Fans attending the show are advised to plan their journey to and from the stadium carefully and arrive well in advance of the show, as entry points will be extremely busy.

Approach roads to the stadium will be closed on show day to ensure the safety of the large numbers of pedestrians and there is no parking or access available at the stadium itself, or in the surrounding residential areas. Those attending the concerts or collecting young people after the show should use the city centre car parks, which are just a short walk from the stadium.

An official rendezvous point is located within the Sheepfolds Industrial Estate, close to St Peter’s Metro station, where parents or guardians can meet youngsters after the show - again there is no vehicle access to this area and it must be accessed on foot.

With the safety of concert-goers a priority, free identification wristbands are available to ticket holders under 18. The wristbands include sections for parents or guardians to fill in their name, mobile number and seat number to assist in reuniting parents and children in the event that they become separated.

The identification wristbands will be available on the day from SAFC stewards and special meet and greet teams, who will be offering assistance at entry points to the stadium.

Parents and guardians are also advised to familiarise themselves with the stadium layout on arrival. There will be a designated meeting/reuniting point at the back of the pitch area where parties can go to should they become separated.  Specially trained stewards and staff will also be on hand inside and outside the stadium to provide assistance as needed.

Paul Weir, SAFC’s head of safety and security, said: “With a show of this nature we will be welcoming large numbers of young people to the stadium. We need parents and guardians to help ensure that the event is a success and we would advise that if accompanying children to the event, please make use of the free ID wristbands as an enhanced safety measure.”
