Amazing end to summer of music at the SoL.
Sunderland’s Stadium of Light topped off its summer of major music events with the spectacular 11-artist pop extravaganza, North East Live.
The home of Sunderland AFC completed a concert hat-trick as JLS, The Wanted, Little Mix and a host of the UK’s top pop acts took to the stage in what was the North East’s biggest-ever pop show. Over 30,000 adoring fans danced, cheered and screamed their way through sets from local acts James Arthur and Amelia Lily, along with up and coming stars Union J, The Vamps, Conor Maynard, Lawson and Stooshe.
Girlband of the moment, Little Mix, whose line-up features two North East members, wowed their fans with an energetic performance and sets from Rita Ora and The Wanted kept the lively crowd in a party mood. Headliners JLS took to the stage to close the event, in what was one of their last-ever outdoor shows before the much-loved boyband go their separate ways.
North East Live was the first multi-artist event staged at the Stadium of Light and organisers have confirmed that the show will return again in June next year – bigger and better. The show date and artist line-up will be announced in the coming months.
Sunderland AFC commercial director, Gary Hutchinson, said: “North East Live was a completely different show to the type of concerts we’ve staged at the Stadium of Light previously and it’s been fantastic. There was a great family-feel to the whole day and it was wonderful to see everyone - young and old -having such a good time.
“We are now going to build on the success of this years’ event to make North East Live one of the must-see shows in the summer music calendar for 2014, so watch this space for some exciting announcements.”
Sam Bush, from concert promoters AEG said: “We are delighted that the inaugural North East Live has been such a fantastic success. We’ve had hugely positive feedback from everyone, especially the artists themselves and we can’t wait to come back next year.”
