Lucky competition winners set for SoL visit.
More than 30 students from a North East primary school will be spending the evening with some of music’s biggest stars, thanks to the creative talents of one of their classmates.
Katie, from Green Lane Primary School, Barnard Castle, won a competition to design a programme for blinkbox music North East Live, which is being headlined by Jessie J at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on Sunday (June 22).
The success of the 10-year-old’s entry, which features drawings of the concert’s big-name line-up, means that she and her entire class will now be attending the gig for free, courtesy of organisers SAFC and AEG Live.
The group of year four and five students, all of whom also entered the competition individually, will also receive specially-printed copies of Katie’s programme and a montage of images from the day.
Abigail Cone, teacher, at Green Lane Primary School, said: “The students all worked really hard on their entries for the North East Live competition and we are absolutely thrilled that Katie has won. The entire class is now counting down the minutes until the concert and I know it’s going to be a fantastic day out for all of them.”
Along with chart-topper Jessie J, blinkbox music North East Live will also feature live performances by Jason Derulo, Rizzle Kicks, The Saturdays, Katy B, Union J, The Vamps, Austin Mahone, Neon Jungle and Rixton.
The family-friendly extravaganza, which is open to all ages, will start with Austin Mahone at 1.20pm and finish with Jessie J around 9.45pm.
Gary Hutchinson, Commercial Director at SAFC, said: “We received entries from schools across the North East for our programme competition and the standards of the submissions were extremely high.
“Katie’s entry stood out to our judges, because of the time she’d taken to hand draw pictures of all ten acts, but I would like to congratulate everyone who entered on their creativity and hard work.”
