New signing reveals chats with Henderson and Mignolet.
Fabio Borini already had the inside track on Sunderland prior to making his loan move to the Stadium of Light.
With the wheels in motion regarding his transfer, the Italian consulted with two Liverpool team-mates more familiar with Wearside than most – Jordan Henderson and Simon Mignolet.
Henderson, of course, came through the Black Cats’ youth system, while keeper Mignolet spent three seasons at the Stadium of Light.
And their references were glowing – with Borini now beginning a new chapter of his career in red and white.
“I asked them a little bit about one or two things about the club,” said Borini, who has penned a season-long loan deal.
“They gave me some advice. Obviously Jordan is from Sunderland and Simon was really happy I was coming here.
“He told me it was the right place for me to come and I am really looking forward to it.”
Borini made 20 appearances for Liverpool last season and impressed for his country during the recent U21 European Championships.
Now he’s looking forward to kicking on and hopefully getting regular games with Paolo Di Canio’s side.
“It feels good to make the move,” he added. “I was waiting to get my time to play and I needed to play.
“This is the right place to come. It is a great opportunity for me.
“Playing [regularly] is important for me to achieve my goals for the season.”
