New coach runs rule over Black Cats squad.
Gus Poyet believes he has inherited a very capable squad of players and is looking forward to working with them.
Fourteen new faces moved to the Wearside this past summer, joining players already established at the Stadium of Light
The new head coach has revealed that all members of the squad will have the opportunity to show him what they can do.
“I’m a very honest person,” Poyet told safc.com. “I believe football should be played one way, positively and adaptable to the players. It needs to work for the players you have available to you, and you must use their ability in the best way.
“The players need the opportunity to perform and play in the position where they want to, they need to feel comfortable.
“That’s why I’m here – the players here are very talented. I’m convinced the players are good enough. We need to make sure we find what is needed in every player and that’s my job.”
Poyet has worked with a myriad of personalities throughout his football career, at both playing and coaching level and feels he has the ability to bring out the best in his players.
“From the outside looking in it’s very easy to see different things but when you’re on the inside you realise it can be quite a difficult task.
“You need to talk to the players to see which is the best way to play. Sometimes you can really like one player but they may not work in the team.
“You have to be smart enough to get the best 11 on the pitch to win football matches.”
