Midfielder could go head-to-head with Fletcher.
David Vaughan will head off on international duty with Wales next week.
The 30-year-old has been called up for a pair of World Cup qualifying matches as Chris Coleman's side look to close a seven-point gap on joint Group A leaders Belgium and Croatia.
Wales will travel to Glasgow's Hampden Park to face Scotland on Friday 22nd March, potentially pitting Vaughan against Sunderland team-mate Steven Fletcher.
They will then take on Serbia four days later on Tuesday 26th March, with the game taking place at Swansea's Liberty Stadium.
