Youngster in the spotlight after first-team call.
Eighteen-year-old Mikael Mandron hails from France and signed for the Black Cats in the summer of 2011 after impressing whilst on trial at the Academy of Light.
After plying his trade for Bolougne in France he joined up with the Academy last season and made an instant impact, scoring six goals in 24 games as he adapted to life on Wearside.
Mandron has made a real impact in 2012-13 with 12 goals in 13 under-18 appearances earning him a promotion to Kevin Ball’s development squad.
And he’s not stopped impressing in Ball’s side, most notably a wonder-strike in the Black Cats' 2-2 draw with Everton at Eppleton CW.
His latest 90 minutes came as Sunderland’s U21’s drew with Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light and he turned provider for Ryan Noble’s goal that night during an impressive performance.
