Wickham's European Championship dream over.

Connor Wickham played the second-half of England under-21’s 3-1 defeat by Norway which saw the Young Lions crash out of the UEFA under-21 European Championship.

The defeat by the Norwegians was the second for Stuart Pearce’s side in Israel meaning they now cannot qualify even with victory over the hosts in their final group game on Tuesday.

Pearce’s side were three behind after 51 minutes as Fredrik Semb Berge's neat 12-yard finish opened the scoring before Molde's Jo Inge Berget doubled the lead before the break.

Former Manchester United midfielder Magnus Wolff Eikrem made it 3-0 off the underside of the crossbar before West Brom’s Craig Dawson gave England hope with a penalty on the hour mark.

Wickham twice went close to scoring in the second-half, though his first effort was saved by Orjan Nyland, and the second was blocked by a stout Norway challenge.

The young Three Lions travel to Jerusalem for a clash with Israel tomorrow night before they fly back to England to review a disappointing time in the Middle-East.
