New striker looks ahead to Far East trip and reflects on debut.

Jozy Altidore can’t wait to pull on the Sunderland shirt in Hong Kong as the countdown to the Barclays Asia Trophy continues.

Altidore, who joined the club from AZ Alkmaar last week, will travel to the Far East with his new colleagues this weekend ahead of the showpiece tournament.

Paolo Di Canio’s side will play two games in the Hong Kong Stadium, against Tottenham Hotspur and either Manchester City or South China.

And Altidore feel the trip is a great prelude to what he hopes will be a successful 2013-14 campaign.

“It’s really exciting,” said the striker, who netted 31 goals last season as Alkmaar lifted the Dutch Cup and finished 10th in the Eredivisie.

“This is what every player dreams of, to go to places like that and play in front of a lot of people.

“We’ll be playing against good teams, too.

“I’m excited and I’m sure the guys are too – for this, and to get the season going.”

Meanwhile Altidore has already got 45 minutes of match action under his belt, scoring a goal after coming on at half-time during a practice game against a local select XI in Italy last week.

“It doesn’t matter about the game, it’s always nice to score – especially on your first time out,” he added.

“It gives everybody confidence when you score in these types of games and there’s a positive feeling.

“Everyone is trying to get their legs back under them so these games are important to help you find a rhythm.”
