Roberge stresses importance of trip.
Sunderland landed in Italy on Sunday with head coach Paolo Di Canio leading the first training session during the late afternoon.
The Black Cats enjoyed the first of their warm-weather workouts since their arrival in Di Canio’s native Italy which will also see his side take part in a behind-closed-doors game during their stay.
Summer recruit Valentin Roberge linked up with his new team-mates last week at the Academy of Light and he is keen to get to know the squad as quickly as possible.
The defender has taken part in pre-season training across Europe including France, Greece and most recently Portugal with Maritimo.
And, speaking in the build-up to the trip, he stressed the importance of the workout in Italy with the rest of the squad.
“It’s a very important time for everybody," the defender explained.
“For us, for the coach, for the group because we will spend a lot of time together and we need to be close with everyone.
“We will get to know everyone, how we play and be strong and work, work, work. It’s important for all of us.”
