A closer look at Sunderland's new recruit.
Little was known about the French under-21 international ahead of his move to Sunderland, however, fans were quick to trawl websites and online resources to find out what they could about Martin O’Neill’s latest aquisition.
And fans won’t have been disappointed by their findings.
Black Cat fans enjoy watching a tough-tackling type of player and that’s exactly what the 22 year-old is, a combative midfielder, who is just as happy in defence as he is in the middle of the park.
Alfred began his career with US Vandœuvre , before signing a professional contract with Association Sportive Nancy-Lorraine in 2004. He didn’t make his debut until the 2007–08 season in the Coupe de la Ligue, at the age of 17.
However, it wasn’t until the following season when the midfielder made his mark in the first team and made 27 senior appearances.
In the summer of 2011, Alfred moved to Turkish club Bursaspor, for a fee believed to be around £3 million.
Over two seasons with Bursaspor he amassed 37 appearances and notched three goals.
Alfred has represented France at all age levels and was vice captain of the under-19 team that reached the semi-final of the 2009 UEFA European Championships.
