Monty sees confidence boost after back-to-back wins.
Jimmy Montgomery says Sunderland are enjoying a huge boost of confidence following their recent surge up the league table.
The Black Cats currently sit 11th in the Barclays Premier League after winning each of their last two league games.
They have taken 15 points from their last eight games and could move into the top 10 for the first time this season with a favourable sequence of results next week.
And Montgomery, who is Sunderland’s record appearance maker, says the difference a few positive results makes is incredible.
“We went through a patch where we couldn’t get the win and had a few draws, but the effect of two wins on the spin has been amazing,” he said.
“That’s not just in terms of the league but confidence around the club too.
“You can feel the buzz just walking around the place and see it in the general demeanour of people, which is brilliant.”
Sunderland have a free weekend coming up as the league programme breaks for FA Cup with Budweiser action.
The Black Cats resume their campaign against Swansea City next Tuesday and Montgomery feels a short break might be of benefit to Martin O’Neill’s squad ahead of what he expects to be a tough encounter.
“To be fair the lads can have a good rest and then maybe sit and watch a game; I think the break might be a blessing in disguise,” he said.
“We’ve had quite a hectic programme recently.
“Swansea are playing well at the moment and I like their style of football, but we like to get it down and play too.
“I’m really looking forward to Tuesday’s game. I’ve watched Swansea quite a bit and they will be a good test.”
