Defender says pre-season has prepared team well.
Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar feels Sunderland’s pre-season will serve them well throughout the new campaign.
Paolo Di Canio’s team rounded off their preparations with a win over FC Midtjylland after playing two warm-up games in Italy, before competing in the Barclays Asia Trophy.
Cuellar has reflected on the intense six-week programme and feels the win in Denmark was a good way to conclude pre-season.
“That result is a good way to sign off ahead of the new season kicking off next week,” the defender told safc.com.
“We will now face Fulham and it’s great for the Barclays Premier League season to start with a home fixture at the Stadium of Light.
“The team have done a lot of hard work over the summer and we are looking forward to the season starting.”
Ten new faces have joined the Sunderland camp since the end of last season and Cuellar has revealed that they can’t wait to run out at the Stadium of Light.
“It will be good for the new players to see the ground and meet the fans,” he added.
