Sunderland defender John O’Shea praised the impact of Stephane Sessegnon after the Beninese forward netted the winning goal against Everton.
Sessegnon scored his second goal since the Italian took charge in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over the Toffees and O’Shea was full of praise for the former PSG man’s recent form.
“Ever since I came to the club I’ve known how important Sessy [Stephane Sessegnon] is to the team,” O’Shea said.
“Once we get him the ball in the right places he’s going to hurt teams.
“To be fair to Sessy, the work he has been putting in in training in the last two weeks has been fantastic.
“I’ve seen him do it in training and his goal earlier in the season against Fulham was like that, he’s more than capable of scoring from outside the box and hopefully there is a few more to come from him this season.
And, though O’Shea singled out Sessegnon for individual praise, he says the whole squad has been putting extra work in since Di Canio was appointed earlier this month.
“The gaffer requires 100% from everyone in the training sessions,” he added.
“Everyone has been fantastic and now we’re getting the rewards from it – we need to keep working hard.”
