Injury blow for Cuellar

Carlos expected to miss Hammers trip.

Martin O’Neill expects Carlos Cuellar to miss this weekend’s game at West Ham with a hamstring injury.

The Spanish defender was replaced by Titus Bramble at half time during the 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend.

He has been receiving treatment this week and O’Neill says he is unlikely to figure at the Boleyn Ground and may possibly miss further games.

“Carlos has a hamstring problem and I think he would be very doubtful for not only this game but perhaps the next couple of matches,” he said.

“From that viewpoint it’s a bit disconcerting but these things happen and we have to get on with it.”

Meanwhile there’s no new update on the fitness of Adam Johnson, who missed the Liverpool game with an injury picked up on international duty.

“We were hoping Adam would have made the fixture last weekend, but that wasn’t the case,” O’Neill said.

“He’s progressing but it’s too early to say yet about this weekend.”
