We look back on last season's City trip.
Sunderland’s visit to the Etihad Stadium last season ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw as the Black Cats became the only team to take a league point at City’s home in 2011-12.
Seb Larsson’s fine finish gave the visitors the lead only for Mario Balotelli to level from the penalty spot.
However, a Nicklas Bendtner header meant Martin O’Neill’s side went in ahead at the break.
That lead was extended when Bendter fed a low ball across the face of goal for Larsson, who slid home at the far post.
It looked as if Sunderland would claim all three points, but City staged a late fightback to claim a share of the spoils.
Balotelli pulled a goal back with a powerful shot before Aleksandar Kolarov equalised with a low shot from the edge of the box.
