Manager’s injury update ahead of Saturday’s action.

Martin O’Neill has revealed that Phil Bardsley is unlikely to figure against former club Manchester United tomorrow.

The defender limped out of the midweek win over Reading having come off the substitutes’ bench at half time.

The man he replaced – Adam Johnson – and Danny Rose also picked up knocks and are being assessed.

“Some of the lads are still pretty sure and Phil is really struggling,” O’Neill said.

“I’m not terribly sure on the others at this moment. We will see.

“I got an update yesterday but that might change again.”

Meanwhile O’Neill saw a big player return from a brief lay-off in midweek as Steven Fletcher came back into the side to play a key role.

The Scottish striker netted after missing the Chelsea game with an injury and O’Neill says he impact can’t be understated.

“Fletcher declaring himself fit on Tuesday was a great boost, really great,” he explained.

“You could see the confidence is the dressing room becoming greater because he was fit.”
