Fairweather previews Fulham clash

Coach looks ahead to U18s' weekend test.

U18 coach Carlton Fairweather is hoping the young Black Cats can take the positives from last week’s draw with Arsenal into this weekend’s clash with another London outfit.

Fulham arrive at the Stadium of Light on Saturday (KO 11am) with Sunderland looking to build on a hard-fought point last weekend.

Rees Greenwood scored for Sunderland against the Gunners, with the hosts unlucky not to register their first win of the season.

And Fairweather is hoping for more progress this weekend against a Fulham outfit who have participated in some good battles with the Black Cats in the past.

“The lads played really well [against Arsenal], especially considering the game we had on Wednesday [versus Newcastle] where we didn’t really play that well,” he explained.

“To bounce back as we did was great. We created some fantastic chances, although to win games you need to score goals.

“But on reflection it was a great performance.”

He added: “We always seem to have good games against Fulham; very close. I expect it will be more of the same.

“Hopefully the lads can put on another good display after the one against Arsenal, which was a good boost for us.

“We’re looking for a good performance and hopefully we’ll get something out of the game.”
