U21s to face Rovers

Ball's side in action at Eppleton CW tonight.

Kevin Ball’s development squad will be looking to make it a hat-trick of wins for Sunderland’s three most senior teams as they host Blackburn at Eppleton CW this evening.

After yesterday’s memorable 3-0 victory over local rivals Newcastle United and the U18s’ win at West Ham on Saturday, Ball’s side will be hoping to emulate their colleagues’ efforts.

Ball’s side, who have had to contend with injuries, suffered a narrow defeat in the reverse fixture in Lancashire two months ago.

Jordan Laidler (pictured) had given the young Black Cats the lead on that evening only for Anton Forrester to score twice and earn an experienced Rovers side the points.

Rovers have only won once since they defeated Sunderland, losing four of their last five.

Laidler and second-year scholar Mikael Mandron have both been on the substitute bench for the first team since the arrival of new head coach Paolo Di Canio and both will feature for Ball’s side this evening.

A number of youngsters have also won call-ups, including schoolboy Ethan Robson.

Kick-off is at 7pm and entry is free for season card holders or £3 for adults and £1 concessions, payable on the turnstiles.
