Loss in Scotland for development squad.

Celtic U21 1 Sunderland U21 0

Sunderland’s development squad slipped to a narrow defeat in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Celtic on Wednesday afternoon.

The game took place in poor weather conditions at the Scottish club’s training ground and was settled by a single goal just before the half-hour.

Kevin Ball’s side created chances, with John Egan, Adam Mitchell and Wade Joyce all coming close, but they couldn’t find the goal required to level the match.

“It was a very competitive game,” Ball said afterwards. “Celtic kept the ball better than us in the final third and we needed to be more assertive.

“We started very slowly but grew into the game and created some decent chances.”

Sunderland: Pickford, Marrs (Gorrin), Adams, Reed (Joyce), Egan, Ferguson, Mitchell, Armstrong (Oliver), Laidler, Lynch, Trialist (Deacon).

Subs Not Used: Dixon, Trialist.
