Liddle looking for reaction.
Craig Liddle is looking for his players to come out on the front foot this weekend as Sunderland’s under-18s host Stoke City.
The young Black Cats had notched two wins in a row but slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Manchester United last weekend.
Liddle was disappointed with the performance during the first hour at Carrington and is looking for a reaction at the Academy of Light on Saturday (KO 1pm).
“The lads have been bright in training and they know they didn’t perform last week,” he said.
“They want to put that right this Saturday and I’m certainly looking for a reaction, certainly following the first 60 minutes of the United game.
“We didn’t turn up in that period and gave United far too much respect. We know we’re going to be playing the best Academies and we can’t go into the games with that mindset.
“Instead we have to take the game to the opposition rather than sitting back and waiting for something to happen.”
City travel north having enjoyed an excellent start to the season, winning four and losing two of their first half-dozen games.
“Stoke are second in the league and have had a very good start,” Liddle added.
“It’s a game we’re all looking forward to, especially after last weekend. We’ll go into it with a positive mindset.”
