Liddle previews Saturday's action.
Craig Liddle says Saturday’s Barclays U18 Premier League encounter against Tottenham represents a good opportunity for a number of his players.
The young Black Cats may mix and match as they welcome Spurs to the Academy of Light looking for a fourth win in five games.
“We have a few injuries so this is going to be a test for the boys who haven’t featured as heavily,” Liddle said.
“The lads coming in have an opportunity to show what they can do. We have a big squad and players who can come in.”
Only Manchester United have beaten Sunderland since mid-August and the Wearsiders have moved up to fourth in the league with as many as three games in hand on their rivals.
Spurs, meanwhile, sit bottom with one win, one draw and four defeats from their first six games.
Liddle added: “We’re looking forward to it – the players have been really good in training and I just hope we can put in a good performance.
“Barring the Manchester United game, our last three or four showings have been good.”
