Keeper helps young Lions qualify.
Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has helped England through to the Elite Round as qualifying for next summer’s Under-19 European Championships continues.
Noel Blake’s side topped their group with Pickford playing the full 90 minutes of a 1-1 draw with Ukraine in Tallinn yesterday.
Both goals came late in the game, with Ukraine’s Vladyslav Pavlenko opening the scoring on 88 minutes despite English dominance beforehand.
However, Hallam Hope levelled in the fourth minute of stoppage time, finishing well from Blair Turgott’s free-kick.
England now have a good chance of receiving a seeded position in December’s draw for the Elite Round.
Coach Blake told thefa.com afterwards: “Their goal came as a blow, but we showed our character after that.
“It was the first goal that we’d conceded in the tournament and the first time we’d been behind, but we came back and scored a terrific goal to equalise.”
