Coach reflects on 'deserved' victory.

Kevin Ball felt his under-21 side could have increased their margin of victory as they ran out winners at Stoke.

The development squad picked up their first league win of the season and extended their unbeaten run to four games.

John Egan scored the only goal of the game after 23 minutes when he was set up by Jordan Laidler.

“We played very well and created chances, but we didn't put them away,” Ball said afterwards. “At one-nil it's always tough but the goal itself was a great piece of play.

“We played some lovely football and created some good chances, while Stoke had their opportunities as well. Jordan [Pickford] made one or two good saves.

“The boys really enjoyed playing at the Britannia Stadium; the pitch was outstanding and it was a nice experience.

“In all the games we've played we've been teetering on the edge of getting that win.

“It's nice to have done that. We deserved it because of the work rate and the effort the players put in.”
