Under 21 manager Kevin Ball was happy with his team’s performance following their 4-1 victory over Stoke City.

Ball watched his side take a first half lead against the Potters before three goals in the second period sealed the victory for a squad bolstered by the addition of a number of senior players.

We got the win today and it was fully deserved.

Fraizer Campbell, Titus Bramble and James McFadden were all in the starting line-up against Stoke City, as well as Ji Dong-won.

Following the game, Ball told “We were the most experienced side, therefore you would have expected us to win, but what pleased me was the way we approached the game.

“We played well and there was some good football played and superb attitude shown by the players.

Ball continued: “We created lots of chances and maybe should have scored more.

“Looking at our recent run when on occasions things haven’t gone our way, we got the win today and it was fully deserved.”

Campbell and Ji both scored in the win, after a deflected Bramble shot and Adam Reed penalty set Sunderland on their way.

“”It was good for the younger players to get a chance to play alongside the experienced players.” Ball added.

“Reed showed great attitude when stepped up to take the penalty.

“He wasn’t shy, even after missing a one against Newcastle a couple of weeks ago , fair play to him, he stepped up and put it away in emphatic style. “
