1985 - Clive Walker (pictured) scored the only goal at Watford as Sunderland reached the semi-finals of the Milk Cup.

1954 - Ted Purdon scored arguably Sunderland's quickest ever goal - 10 seconds into a game against Arsenal. He scored two further goals in a 4-1 win.

1932 - Diminutive striker Benny Yorston signed from Aberdeen for £2,000.
