Phillips equals post-WW2 club record.

1998 - Kevin Phillips' winning goal at Manchester City saw the striker equal Tommy Wright's post-war record of scoring in seven consecutive games.

2001 - Sunderland beat Crystal Palace 4-2 after extra time in an FA Cup fourth round replay at Selhurst Park.

1931 - William Keeton made his Sunderland debut against Arsenal. He was also an accomplished cricketer, once scoring a triple century (312 not out) for Nottinghamshire v Middlesex in 1939.
