Former striker returns with latest weekly column.
I was watching the transfer deadline day updates with interest when the news broke about Danny Graham joining.
I think he’s a great addition for us. He will work hard and give 100% for this club and that’s what the fans want to see.
He left a club who are doing well and in a cup final – he wants to play and not sit on the bench.
Only the manager can decide his role but he’ll be confident of being able to play more of a part here.
All strikers who go to new clubs want to get that first goal as soon as they can and when it comes it will help him settle in.
Danny gives Martin some more flexibility in the way he wants to play, whether that’s going two up top or something else.
I think Danny has always felt the need to prove himself throughout his career, ever since being released from Middlesbrough.
When you get released it’s easy to drift out of the game, but he had the mental strength and character to bounce back and that says a lot about him.
He’s scored goals at every level he’s played at and you can’t ask any more than that.
Hopefully he’ll be available for the Reading game this weekend, which would be a boost against a team who are bang in form.
Reading are absolutely flying. The determination they’ve shown down there is remarkable and they’ve had some amazing results. You have to give them credit.
They’ve got a player full of confidence in Adam Le Fondre, who’s another one to make his way up through the lower leagues.
I actually played against Adam when he was at Rochdale and there’s loads of players from that level at that time who are now in the Barclays Premier League.
People like Adam, Grant Holt and Rickie Lambert are big players and they are proof that if you work hard and score goals, someone will take a chance on you.
From the looks of it we’ve got another sold-out away following going down there, which is fantastic. Hopefully the lads can give them something to cheer about.
