1948 – The ‘Clown Prince of Soccer’, Len Shackleton, joined Sunderland from Newcastle for a British record fee of £20,050.
1984 – Craig Russell was Sunderland’s mascot at home to Liverpool on his 10th birthday.
1931 – Sunderland beat Blackburn 8-2 after leading 7-0 at half time – their best-ever first-half return.
1904 – Andrew McCombie was sold to Newcastle for a record £700.
