Legendary manager Bob Stokoe passed away on this day in 2004.

2004 – Death of former manager Bob Stokoe aged 73. The Messiah was twice in charge, 1972 to 1976 and as caretaker in 1987. He famously led the club to FA Cup glory in 1973.

2003 – Stephen Wright and Michael Proctor (2) score own goals within the space of eight first half minutes in a home defeat to Charlton Athletic.

1993 – Malcolm Crosby was sacked as Sunderland manager.

1913 – The FA Cup second round tie at Hyde Road against Manchester City was abandoned after 60 minutes due to a crowd invasion with Sunderland leading 2-0.
