2005 – Over 7,000 Sunderland fans packed out Wigan’s JJB Stadium to watch an early Marcus Stewart goal clinch a crucial win in Mick McCarthy’s promotion push.

1992 - John Byrne’s strike secures Sunderland’s place in the FA Cup Final as the Lads see of Norwich City.

1980 - Stan Cummins grans the winner in a promotion clash with derby rivals Newcastle United.

1890 – ‘The Team of all the Talents’ pick up their nickname after trouncing  Aston Villa 7-2 in a friendly at Newcastle Road.
